Forty-five people attended “Christ in the Passover”, presented by Irina Volodarska from Kiev, Ukraine and Sarah Galiley from New Jersey. Both women work for an organization entitled Jews for Jesus. The Manistique Ministerial Association sponsored the event and Zion hosted it on March 17th. Irina’s presentation explained the celebration of Passover, a 7-day spring tradition, including the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Many Jewish traditions and symbols surround the 4 hour feast. Foods used to symbolize Christ’s passion are: parsley for life, salt water for the tears of life or sorrow, horseradish/ onion for the bitterness of life without redemption, apples for the sweetness and promise of new life, an egg for the beginning of new life, and a lamb’s shank bone for the sacrifice of Christ Jesus. Being “Jewish” may be more ethnic than religious. Members of Jews for Jesus consider themselves to be Jewish by birth and culture, but have come to believe in Jesus. “JFJ” have organized a world-wide mission to take Jesus to Jews throughout the world, beginning this May in Tel Aviv, Israel. Irina and Sarah ask that we pray for them as they take Jesus--Y’shua—to Jews. Irina concluded by reminding us that “it is a very Jewish thing that Jesus is the Messiah of the Jews.”
